Floris Simons, Associate - Madagascar
It is with the deepest sorrow that we inform you on the death of Floris Simons, our fellow Associate in Madagascar.
Floris was only 26 years old, and worked as a Young Expert for HERi Madagascar. He was involved in a fatal traffic accident in Madagascar on June 16th 2016 and passed away in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
At DIBcoop we remember Floris as a dedicated colleague, and great fun to work with. Floris focused his studies and work on how the private sector can pull smallholder farmers into better paying markets. As such Floris was perfectly at his place in Madagascar. He was setting up plant nurseries, helped farmers to grow Artemisia annua and set op purchase arrangements of their product for the benefit of the rural poor. The work had impact. Thousands of smallholder farmers were provided an additional income. Millions of people access to cheap malaria medication.
Our sincere condolences go out to all his family, friends, beloved ones, HERi colleagues, fellow YEPers and all affected by this tragedy. We miss him terribly.
