Palestine - Olives

Project budget: Euro 1,499,993 External financing: 60% grant funding by PSI Project period: October 2009 - December 2011 This project has established a processing line to bottle Fair Trade organic olive oil and pickled olives according to ISO 22000 standards. Without the ISO standards, it is not possible to access the international market beyond bio and solidarity shops. The processing unit is in Jenin, Palestine. The project has trained 700 Palestinian small holder farmers in ISO 22000 (including HACCP) compliant olive production and processing and will ensure that they will maintain access to the North American and European Market. Progress - The joint venture establishment (Result 1) was achieved by March 2010. - The hardware installation (Result 2) was largely completed by November 2011. A last final batch of hardware will be installed before the end of 2012. - Employment and training of staff (Result 3) was completed in March 2012. - The ISO22000 certification process has started and training is completed (Result 4). A report for Result 4 is what remains to be done. |
